Ever since I can remember I have loved sewing, thanks largely to my elegant, charming and witty grandmother (pictured). A milliner, who also made all her own clothes and, no doubt, most of the soft furnishings in her home. Playing with her big box of buttons and dressing up in swathes of cast off fabrics instilled in me a hunger for making things – and as soon as I was old enough to thread a needle I made my own soft toys. Later running up originally designed bags and hats and even taking apart my favourite clothes to make patterns from them.

Fast forward to adulthood, and as well as still making things for pleasure, professionally I worked for many years making curtains, roman blinds and loose covers for a well established regional soft furnishings company. Then I took the leap in 2018 to start up my own business ‘Sew Tovey’.

Now as a freelance seamstress with 30 years’ experience I specialise in creating handmade bespoke curtains, blinds, soft furnishings, fitted loose covers, cushions and camper van interiors. I am passionate about what I do and pride myself on the handmade quality and attention to detail in everything I create. I still make bags, hats and do alterations. Repurposing old fabrics, stitching new life in to them to make beautiful items is one of my favorite things to do. I’m happy to take on most tasks (though admittedly, I am not a huge fan of zips!).
